Mt. Pleasant High School is known for turning out good hurdlers. This year is no exception. Kelsi Phipps set a new MPHS record during the morning prelims of the 100 meter hurdles running 15.04, Leslie Taylor made the finals also with a 15.5 clocking. Hannah Becker did not make the finals she ran 16.4.
Cole Phillips made the finals in the 110 high hurdles running 14.81 for the 5th fastest qualifying time, Spence White ran 15.36 and did not make the final 8.
In the finals Kelsi Phipps finished 3rd in 15.06, Leslie Taylor ran 7th in 15.48, winning time was 14.3.
Cole Phillips ran 14.57 in the finals and finished 5th, winning time was 14.20.
Leslie Taylor also competed in the long jump she went 17’ 2” for 6th place, winning jump was19’.
Dustin Amos jumped 6’3” in the high jump and tied for 12th, Jeff Giannettino of West Burlington won at 7’ even, Xavior Williams West Burlington 3rd at 6’ 8”.
Mary Wester finished 8th in the discus throw at the Drake Relays today with a toss of 123’ 1”. Lou Krieger-Coen finished 16th with a toss of 114’ 3”. The winner was Kiana Phelps of Kingsley Pierson-Woodward at 151’ 10”.
Wester finished 9th yesterday in the high school girls shot put event at the Drake Relays with a toss of 38’ 9 ¾”, the winner was Shelby Gunnells of Solon at 42’ 1 ¼”. Mary finished 17th last year in this event.
The MPHS girls soccer team picked up a 1-0 win over a talented Holy Trinity Catholic team at East Lake Park. Lauren Ralls scored the goal for the Panthers, it’s her 4th one she has scored this week. Megan Myers got the assist, Tiffany Liechty recorded 5 saves in goal. M.P. is 2-4, they play at Washington Monday.
