MPHS JV boy’s soccer team finished 2nd in the Ft. Madison JV soccer tournament Saturday, Panthers beat Burlington 3-0, Albia 3-1 and lost to Muscatine 3-2.

 

Saturday the MPHS girls tennis team played at the Keokuk Invitational Tournament

Tournament format: Two singles brackets and two doubles brackets. Players could play either singles or doubles.

Today’s sports schedule for Mt. Pleasant teams.  Girls golf at Muscatine POSTPONED TO LATER, boy’s golf hosts Keokuk, girl’s soccer at Fairfield, boy’s soccer host Fairfield, boy’s tennis at Notre Dame.

The Waco Track meet that was scheduled for tonight has been postponed till Tuesday night because of the cold.  All workers that were to help with the meet tonight should report tomorrow to help run the meet if you can.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan track & field team finished competition at the Western Illinois University Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational on Saturday.  After two days of competition, the men’s team finished 8th out of 13 teams with 29 points.  The IWC women’s team did not record a team score.

The Iowa Wesleyan College track & field team started off strong in their first day at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational Friday.

The men’s 4x200m relay team of Raul Becerril, Anthony Harris, Michael Klostermann, and Duane Lee broke the school record that had stood since 1988.  The team placed 2nd, clocking in at 1:29.62.

Will Stephenson had an impressive day in the long jump.  Stephenson took 2nd, jumping 6.31m (20’8.5″).

 

The Iowa Wesleyan softball team lost both games of a doubleheader Friday to Spalding University.  The Tigers lost 5-4 and 13-8 to Spalding.  Games were played in Jacksonville, IL.

Tiger softball team bounced back to sweep Blackburn College on Saturday in a doubleheader 8-4 and 1-0.  The Tigers are now 12-16 overall and remain at .500 in conference play at 6-6

 

The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team went 2-3 over the weekend.  On Friday, the Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader to Spalding University.  The Tigers then played a three game series against Blackburn College (two on Saturday and one on Sunday), taking 2-of-3 from the Beavers.  The Tigers are now 7-20 overall and 6-11 in the SLIAC.

Terry (T-Mac) McCarl, Altoona, Iowa, picked up the $3000 to win Midwest Open Wheel Association feature race at 34 Raceway Saturday night April 12.  Also picking up wins were Adam Gates (4 Cylinders), Cedar Rapids and  Scott Hogan (modifieds), Vinton.

 

Bubba Watson won the Masters Golf Tournament by 3 strokes over Jonas Blixt.  Watson won $1.6 million dollars for his 4 days of work.

 

The first golf tournament of the year at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club is the Darrel Brown Memorial Tournament on April 27th at 10 a.m.  It’s a 3 man best shot, entry fee is $60 per team.

 

The city of Mt. Pleasant REC department is now taking Mail-in Registration’s for Summer Swim Lessons which start June, 3rd!

May 1st is Walk-in registrations for Summer Swimming Lessons!

Mt. Pleasant Tournament Teams are sponsoring a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament at the High School on April 20th.

Ages 3rd grade-Adult  male and female.

Iowa Wesleyan College is conducting several basketball camps in the near future. 

The elite camp for boys in grades 9-12 is May 11th, registration begins at noon, camp begins at 1:30 p.m., goes to 5 p.m.  Cost is $30 and camp is held at Ruble Arena.

The Iowa Wesleyan boys basketball camp for ages k-8 for next fall will be held June 16-18.  K-2nd grade costs $30, camp runs 8-9 a.m.  3rd-8th is $85, camp runs 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Campers may bring their lunch or purchase at the camp.  If you sign up by June 6th you get a free t-shirt. 

Boys team camp is June 28th and 29th for JV and varsity teams.  The camp will be held at Ruble Arena and costs $150 for 1 day or $250 for both days and 6 games.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will sponsor free baseball umpire clinics around the state.

Clinics will cover new rules and some requirements as well as how to get registered with the Iowa High School Athletic Association in order to umpire at any level. They will also work with you on how to umpire the bases and the clinic provides live pitching/catchers and we work with you on positioning when working the plate.

Equipment required is a plate cap and mask For those just getting started you can purchase all umpiring equipment (including fitted caps) at the clinic. Participants should bring money if they desire to purchase equipment or special baseball books that will be available at the clinic. Equipment may be purchased with the use of a credit card, however books are cash only.

The date for the free IHSAA Baseball Umpire Clinic in S.E. Iowa is April 23rd at Ottumwa High School beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

Lake Geode Challenge, an Olympic-distance triathlon in southeast Iowa, again will serve as a regional special qualifier race for USA Triathlon’s Midwest Region. USA Triathlon is the governing body for triathlon in the United States. The race, which has been sanctioned by USAT since it began in 1993, has been a special-qualifier race for the last two years. Top finishers at Lake Geode Challenge may qualify for the Age Group National Championship.

This year’s Lake Geode Challenge will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Geode State Park in Danville, Iowa. The event starts with a 1.5-kilometer clockwise, out-and-back swim from the Lake Geode beach. The swim is followed by a 40-kilometer bike course that takes participants on a loop outside Geode State Park. The race concludes with a 10-kilometer run on asphalt roads throughout the park. Chip timing is used.

Prize money ($300, $200, $125, $75 and $50) will be awarded to the top five male and female finishers. Rick Buller Financial Services, LLC, also is sponsoring cash awards ($125, $75 and $50) to the top three male and top three female Masters (40+) finishers. Participants cannot win an overall cash award and a Masters cash award. Members of the top three male, female and coed teams will receive trophies. Participants also will be eligible for door prizes.

Registration fees are $65 for single and $123 for teams through June 28. After that, fees increase to $85 for single and $141 for teams. Entry fees do not include USAT’s required one-day $12 permit for non-member participants.

The race is organized by Team BEAST (Burlington Endurance Athlete Sports Team). Great River Health Systems is the lead sponsor.
