Iris Street Project Update

Here’s an update on the Mt. Pleasant Iris Street Project: Shipley Contracting poured the last of the concrete for Phase 1 Thursday.  Shoulder construction starts on Monday.  Striping crews are scheduled for Thursday to paint the centerline stripes.  A temporary gravel access will be built from Commerce Drive north along the east side of Iris.  This is for access to Staats only.  Seeding should be completed next week as well.  All Phase 1 work should be completed by next Friday.  Phase 1 will be opened up on Monday, May 19th but this is only for Walmart truck traffic and Distribution Center employees.  After that section is opened, Iris Street from the Walmart entrance to Iris Street South to Centerline Drive will be closed.  All traffic to the Crossroads Industrial Park will need to utilize Iris Street off of Washington to Commerce Drive.  Mapleleaf Drive’s intersection will be closed at that time.  It is expected to be closed for 4 to 6 weeks.  Traffic to Lomont Molding, Walmart Distribution Employees and businesses south of Harvey Road will be detoured.  They are asked to take Washington Street to Grand Avenue, then go north on Grand to Mapleleaf Drive.  Signs will be erected in the coming weeks to direct traffic to affected businesses.
