Severe Weather Preparedness

Spring is here.  That means warmer weather and it also means severe weather.  Iowans are urged to be prepared for the spring and summer storm season.  It is critically important to take necessary precautions ahead of inclement weather.  Iowa Emergency Management have three steps to take.  Number one: be aware.  That is, stay aware of the potential for bad weather.  Tune in to KILJ, have a weather radio and install a weather alert app on your phone.  Number two is two make an emergency plan.  Sit down with your family and talk about what to do if there is an alert issue or if there is danger of flooding.  Make plans for those with special needs, such as the elderly, and also your pets.  And third, build an emergency supply kit.  Keep it in your car and home.  Items should include: water and nonperishable food, a first-aid kid, a battery operated flashlight and radio as well as extra batteries, specialty items such as prescriptions, baby formula, diapers and pet food and copies of important documents such as birth certificates and insurance information.  Iowans are encouraged to be prepared.  Taking a few minutes today to plan can help keep your family safe.  More information can be found at
