The weekly USDA Iowa Crops and Weather Report has been released and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey has commented on it. He reports that planting was slowed by the wet weather but so far, 23% of the corn has been planted. He expects farmers to make significant progress on corn planting and possibly beans as well. Average temperatures for this week were below normal but precipitation was above normal. Less than one day was suitable for fieldwork. Both topsoil and subsoil moisture levels improved. The wet conditions led to little progress for planting. Corn planting is at 23%, ahead of last year but 10 days behind normal.
