Mt. Pleasant girls and boys track teams swept the Gordon Brookhart Relays at Fairfield, Panther girls totaled 177 points, Davis County was 2nd with 117.  Panther boys won the team title with 162 points, well ahead of Davis County who had 116.

Mary Wester broke a school record in the shot put with a toss of 41’ 9” she finished 2nd, Leslie Taylor won the long jump at 16’ 9 1/2”, Laura Hult won the 400 meter dash in 63.16, Chloe Haffarnan the 800 in 2:23.6, Kelsi Phipps set a new meet record in winning the 100 meter hurdles in 14.85, Hannah Becker won the 400 hurdles in 66.9.  M.P. set a new meet record in the shuttle hurdle relay at 64.08 with Sidney and Leslie Taylor, Hannah Becker and Kelsi Phipps.


For the Panther boys, Ben Canby won the shot put 51’ 5 ½”, Dustin Amos took the high jump at 6’ 2”, Cole Phillips won the 100 meter dash in10.89 and the 200 in 22.79, Logan Murray won the 1600 meters in 4:44.1, Spencer White won the 400 meter hurdles in 56.87.  Panther 4×100 relay ran first in 44.59 Pat Canby, Spencer White, Justin Chalupa and Cole Phillips.  Trey Magnani, Zach Mulford, Blake Knudsen and Spencer White won the shuttle hurdle relay in 60.32.


Pleasant Valley won the Burlington Invitational girls high school golf tournament played at Flint Hills Golf course Monday.  The Spartans shot 333 and had the medalist Rachele Miller who shot a 79.  Mt. Pleasant was 2nd in the 13 team field with a 363 score.  Elle Schliesman and Brianne Holtkamp shot 87’s, Emily Cox 92, Haley Booton 97.


MPHS girl’s tennis team played at Fairfield last night and won 7-2. Improving their won-loss record to 6-1.

M.P. boys tennis team defeated Fairfield 8-1 at East lake Park.  Singles winners were:  Matt Zihlman, Tyler Pace, Blake Wickham, Austin Meyer and Colton Schinstock.  Doubles winners:  Zach Schmitz and Pace, Zihlman and Wickham, Meyer and Schinstock.


Keokuk defeated the MPHS boys soccer team 3-0 at East Lake Park, Keokuk girls beat the Panthers 9-1 on the Chiefs home pitch, Lauren Ralls had the Panther goal.


7th grade girls track team placed 4th overall at the Fort Madison Middle School Girls Relays Monday May 5, 2014

Individual Panther winner:

200 m hurdles   Maddie Williamson 33.77

The 8th grade middle school girls track team traveled to Fort Madison on Monday, May 5, 2014.  The Panthers placed 2nd overall with 120 points behind Fairfield with 133 points.

Mikaela Foecke, a Junior at Holy Trinity Catholic High School  who participated in the Junior Olympics volleyball competition last year for the United States has made the first tryout cut to make the 2014 USA Women’s Junior National Volley BallTeam.  They are taking 18 girls to the second tryout level, 12 of the athletes will get to go to Guatemala this Summer.
