The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released their pre-season softball rankings. The highest ranked area team is the New London Tigers who are #2 in Class 1A behind #1 Akron Westfield. Class 2A is topped by Iowa City Regina with Highland ranked #2. West Burlington-Notre Dame is #8 in 3A with Sergeant Bluff-Luton #1. Class 4A Dallas Center-Grimes is #1, Fairfield out of the Southeast Conference is 9th. Class 5A Johnston is #1.


MPHS baseball team is playing at North Scott tonight, Panthers are 0-2 after dropping a double header to #2 ranked Davenport Assumption Tuesday.


The Mt. Pleasant High School trap shooting team will be participating at the High School State Trap Shooting Championships in Cedar Falls Friday and Saturday. The intermediate team of 7th and 8th graders will shoot in competition on Sunday. 38 student-athletes will be in competition at the tournament.


The Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 2A soccer Substate action tonight has Washington at Fairfield in the semifinals. The substate final will be Saturday at either Tiffin or Fairfield.

Class 1A soccer substate semifinals. In West Point Columbus Community plays Notre Dame-West Burlington at 5 p.m.   Central Lee plays the #4 ranked Danville-New London team at 7 p.m. The finals will be Saturday in West Point.


Kiley Miller of the Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s golf team finished as runnerup medalist at the district tournament played at Williamsburg last Friday. Kiley shot a 2 over par 74 and won a playoff to capture runnerup honors. He now advances onto The 3A State Meet, it will be played at the Ames Golf and country club May 30 and 31st.



MPHS girls golf team qualified for the Class 4A State Golf Tournament in Ames by placing 2nd to Washington at the Region 2 Regional Tournament at Oskaloosa’s Edmondson Golf Club

Washington – 365 – State Qualifier

Mount Pleasant – 372 – State Qualifier

Alex Krehbiel of Central Lee qualified for the Class 3A state golf tournament medalist competition. She shot a 78 in the regional to finish 2nd.


State Tournaments will be played on the following courses:
1A-2A: June 2-3, American Legion Golf Course, Marshalltown
3A-4A: June 2-3, Ames Golf & Country Club, Ames
5A: June 2-3, Elmwood Country Club, Marshalltown


Washington and Mt. Pleasant are going to play each other in football June 7th at Washington. No it’s not a high school game, it’s a full contact alumni game. The Panthers and Demons of yesterday will meet in a real tackle football game that will be sanctioned by Alumni Football USA. An organization that has put on 700 alumni games in 28 states and has raised over $1 million for local charities. These gentleman will not only spend time practicing and getting in shape, but will also spend $100 to be equipped and insured. The game is part of the Washington, Iowa 175 anniversary celebration, following the game two bands and refreshments will be enjoyed in uptown Washington.

Pre-sales of tickets for the game will take place at a cost of $10 per ticket, half that money will be given to the Nick Capaldo family to help cover costs of cancer treatments for their daughter Ellie, tickets are available at The Press Box Grille and Bar and Pep Stop.

Other area alumni games that are played include WMU vs Waco and Columbus Community against Wapello.
