Kiley Miller of the Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s golf team who finished as runnerup medalist at the district tournament, will play today and tomorrow in the Class 3A medalist competition at the State Golf Championships at the Ames Golf and country club.


The Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s tennis team will have a doubles team participating in the State Class 1A Doubles Tournament which begins today in Waterloo. Tyler Pace and Zach Schmitz will be competing in the double elimination 16 team field. Pace and Schmitz take a 14-2 won-loss record into the competition.


The Mt. Pleasant High School trap shooting team will be participating at the High School State Trap Shooting Championships in Cedar Falls Friday and Saturday. The intermediate team of 7th and 8th graders will shoot in competition on Sunday. 38 student-athletes will be in competition at the tournament.


North Scott defeated the Mt. Pleasant Panthers in baseball 10-0 Thursday night, Carson Remick suffered the loss on the mound, Remick and Tyler Pace had hits. MP will go to Chariton to play tonight.

The Panther softball team was idle last night but tonight will play at Ottumwa.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 2A soccer Substate action last night had Fairfield down Washington 5-2 in the semifinals. The substate final will be Saturday at Tiffin with Clear Creek-Amana hosting Fairfield.

Class 1A soccer substate semifinals. In West Point, Columbus Community beat Notre Dame-West Burlington 2-0.   #4 ranked Danville-New London rolled over Central Lee 7-0. The finals will be Saturday in West Point, with Columbus Community battling Danville-New London at noon.


MPHS girls golf team qualified for the Class 4A State Golf Tournament in Ames by placing 2nd to Washington at the Region 2 Regional Tournament at Oskaloosa’s Edmondson Golf Club

Alex Krehbiel of Central Lee qualified for the Class 3A state golf tournament medalist competition. She shot a 78 in the regional to finish 2nd.


State Tournaments will be played on the following courses:
1A-2A: June 2-3, American Legion Golf Course, Marshalltown
3A-4A: June 2-3, Ames Golf & Country Club, Ames
5A: June 2-3, Elmwood Country Club, Marshalltown


Washington and Mt. Pleasant are going to play each other in football June 7th at Washington. No it’s not a high school game, it’s a full contact alumni game. The Panthers and Demons of yesterday will meet in a real tackle football game that will be sanctioned by Alumni Football USA. An organization that has put on 700 alumni games in 28 states and has raised over $1 million for local charities. These gentleman will not only spend time practicing and getting in shape, but will also spend $100 to be equipped and insured. The game is part of the Washington, Iowa 175 anniversary celebration, following the game two bands and refreshments will be enjoyed in uptown Washington.

Pre-sales of tickets for the game will take place at a cost of $10 per ticket, half that money will be given to the Nick Capaldo family to help cover costs of cancer treatments for their daughter Ellie, tickets are available at The Press Box Grille and Bar and Pep Stop.

Other area alumni games that are played include WMU vs Waco and Columbus Community against Wapello.
