The MPHS softball team played in the Eddyville Tournament Saturday and won two out of three games.
MP lost to 6th ranked class 2A Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont 9-1, then beat 12th ranked class 3A PCM Monroe 3-2 and S. E. Warren 3-1.
Shelby Allender pitched the loss and one of the wins. Jena Stukerjuergen threw the other win. Morgan Fraise was 2-2 in the 1st game Allender had an RBI. In game 2 Leslie Taylor was 2-3, Lauren Ralls scored the winning run. Mary Wester had a double in the 3rd game. Making the all tournament team were Shelby Allender and Lauren Ralls. The 7-9 Panthers will play at Fairfield tonight in a Southeast Conference double header.

The MPHS baseball team won both games they played in the Mid Prairie Tournament Saturday. They beat IMS 11-4, with Marcus Moothart on the mound. Pat Canby was 2-2 and Trey Magnani had a double. Justin Dilks had 2 RBI’s. In the 2nd game the Panthers downed Davenport North 5-3, Carson Remick pitched the win, Justin Chalupa was 2-2, Colton Schinstock had 2 RBI’s. MP is now 5-5 on the season and plays at Fairfield tonight in a conference double header. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the 1st game at 5:30 p.m.

The MPHS girls track team that captured a runner up finish at this year’s state track meet held their awards banquet Friday night.

The Burlington Bees defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernals on their home diamond with by a 13-3 score. The Bees captured the Western Division first half wild card playoff berth with a record of 38-31. The Midwest League All Star Game is Tuesday night at Western Michigan.
The San Antonio Spurs put an end to the NBA season by beating the Miami Heat in the NBA championship series 4 games to 1. The Spurs won last night 104-87 to capture this years title.
Martin Kaymer won the U.S. Open Championship with a 9 under par 271 total and earned $1.62 million. Iowan Zach Johnson had a hole in one Sunday during the open on the 171 yard 9th hole, didn’t help much as he finished with a 289 score 18 strokes behind the winner.

On June 28th the MPHS JV softball tournament will be played with 6 teams competing at East Lake Park. MPHS, Ottumwa, Fairfield, Keokuk, Washington and Ft. Madison. Games will be played at 9 a.m., 10:45 and 12:30 p.m. using 3 diamonds.
Henry County Health Center is hosting a Coaching Clinic on Tuesday, July 15, from 5-8 p.m. at the HCHC Health Education Center. The clinic is open to all interested certified coaches and volunteer coaches.
The Coaching Clinic will cover the following topics:
