Edna Verlee Bush

Edna Verlee Bush, age 93, formerly of Yarmouth, died Tuesday evening, July 8, 2014, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington. Edna was born to John B. and Bessie Butler Vandemark on May 22, 1921 in Des Moines County. She married Roland Marshall Bush on February 20, 1943 at rural Mediapolis. He passed away on March 18, 2002.

She graduated from Sperry High School and Parsons College in Fairfield with graduate work at Utah State University and the University of Iowa. She was a lifelong member of the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove and was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the White Star Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She taught at Pulaski High School before her marriage, then farmed for fifteen years and then taught in the Huron and Yarmouth buildings of the Mediapolis school district before retiring in 1977. They spent the winters in Texas and became residents of Pharr, Texas in 1994 before moving back to Iowa in 2000.

Edna enjoyed camping, travelling, reading, square dancing, music, crossword puzzles, and playing solitaire.

She is survived by three children, Barbara & Earl Wunder of Cottonwood, Arizona, David & Cathy Bush of Yarmouth, and Glenda Bush of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Sheryl Rendon, Elaine Dovzak, Kevin Bush, Steven Bush, Renee’ Hunerdosse, Darin Bush, Brandon Wlosinski, and Joe Wlosinski; six great granddaughters, Kaitlyn Rendon, Payton Bush, MacKenzie Dovzak, Carsyn Bush, Daniella Johnson, and Madilynn Hunerdosse; and five great grandsons, Hayden Bush, Conner Bush, Caleb Bush, Hunter Dovzak, and Kade Bush. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland; and a sister.

The Funeral Ceremony for Edna Bush will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday. July 12, 2014, at the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove, officiated by Rev. Shane McCampbell. Burial will follow at the Shinar Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 800 PM on Friday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis with the family to meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 beginning with Eastern Star Rites at 6:00.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefits of the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Mediapolis Public Library.
