The Mt Pleasant Police Department participated in the sTEP (special Traffic Enforcement Program) July 1-7th. This week long enforcement campaign was meant to drive home to the motoring public the importance of seat belt use and the consequences for not buckling up. As of May 2nd we have lost 81 friends, family members and others on Iowa roadways from car crashes that resulted in fatalities. Of those 81 over 44% were known to be unbuckled and 10% were listed as unknown. The Mt Pleasant PD encourages you to buckle up when you drive.

There was one OWI arrest, 26 citations, 58 warnings issued, five motor vehicle collisions, and 27 motorist assists. The next Step program will be in September of 2014.
