New London is one win away from returning to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union summer state softball championships. The #3 ranked tigers rolled over Lone Tree 13-2 Friday night on the Lady Lions home field. New London now plays Bellevue Marquette Catholic Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at Wilton in the regional championship game. It’s a rematch of 3 years ago in Iowa City when Marquette Catholic defeated them 5-1. BMC last night punched their ticket to the regional final with a 5-0 win over Lisbon. New London jumped out quickly on Lone Tree scoring 1 run in the top of the 1st, added 2 runs in the 2nd, 4th and 5th innings and 3 in the 6th and 7th. The Lady Lions put their runs on the board with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 6th by Madelyn Flemr. Sami Koontz and Morgan Christner led the Tiger offense going 2-4, Emily Pry also had 2 hits including a double and Victoria Noel doubled off the left field wall. Morgan Chrsitner pitched the win throwing a 3 hitter. Join KILJ-FM 105.5 and Monday night for the live broadcast of 25-4 and #3 New London against the 33-6 and 11th ranked Bellevue Marquette team.

OTHER AREA REGIONAL GAMES LAST NIGHT: West Burlington-Notre Dame beat Albia 6-4 and plays PCM in the 3A regional final at Ottumwa Monday. Highland beat Wapello 8-3 and the #1 Huskies now play Pella Christian at Washington Monday in the 2A regional final.


Tonight the MPHS Panther softball team plays at 8th ranked Fairfield in a 4A regional semi final at 7 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and will bring you all the live action.

Washington plays at Davenport Assumption in a 4A regional semi also.


MPHS baseball team split their double header at Knoxville last night, Knoxville won the 1st game 4-3, M.P. took the nightcap in 6 innings winning 11-1.


After the 1st day of the Iowa Masters golf tournament Mt. Pleasant’s Kiley Miller is 122nd shooting an 18 over par 90. The tournament is being played on the Veekner Course in Ames, Iowa. The leader is Jon Brown of Clive with a 5 under par 67 score.
