The 2014 football season opens up tonight for the Mt. Pleasant Panthers as they travel to Ottumwa to play Class 4A Ottumwa. Last season Mt. Pleasant opened up against Ottumwa and fell 46-3, that was the beginning of a winless season. The first time that has happened in Panther football history. Can M.P. turn the program and go from worst to first in one year? That remains to be seen. Realistically speaking the team will be better, but the schedule is tougher this year. Coach Shawn Striegel entering his 2nd season as head coach has to find a new quarterback and has to develop some linemen on both sides of the ball. Some off season injuries and disciplinary action will have some good players standing on the sideline for awhile. One thing the team and coaches have going for them is a good attitude……Ottumwa has a lot of holes to fill on their team also. The area that looks strongest for them is their running game, next would be their numbers as a 4A school the Bulldogs will have more folks to call on to play which can play big early in the year when the weather is warmer. The freshman team of the two schools play at 5 p.m.

KILJ will be broadcasting the varsity game live beginning at 6:30 p.m. with our pregame shows, kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
