Sunnybrook Assisted Living hosts “Coffee Chat” at 10 am with Jeffrey Meyer from the Mt. Pleasant Public Library.

The Mt. Pleasant Compost Site has opened for the season. They are open Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm and Wednesdays from 1 to 6 pm. Any questions, call 385-1480.

Mt. Pleasant High School students celebrate their prom. The promenade begins at 4:30. Students must register and be in line by 5 pm. Spectators can enter the building at 3:30 and use the west bleachers. Prom pictures will be taken from 2 to 5 pm. The dance is from 9 pm to noon. After Prom will be held at the High School from 12:30 to 3 am. There will be prizes and a hypnotist will perform. Food will be served.

Henry County rural residents Bulk Trash Dropoff is Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am to noon at 900 West Washington in Mt. Pleasant. Furniture, mattresses, rolled carpet and carpet pad, up to six per household, will be accepted. Construction materials will not be accepted.

Mediapolis High School Drama presents “A Night of One Acts” at 7 pm in the High School Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door, $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Winfield Open House runs from 3 to 6 pm. Start at the Veterans Building to pick up a map and players card to be stamped at businesses in the area. A pulled pork meal will be served starting at 5:30 pm at the Winfield Fire Station and is by freewill donation. Proceeds benefit improvements to the city. There will be a drawing for prizes.

Farmington’s Metal Clean Up is today. Items must be out by 7 am. Scrap metal will be collected at no charge but appliances must have a sticker no matter the size. Stickers can be purchased at City Hall.

A Master Gardener’s Plant Sale starts at 9 am at McMillan Park’s Wright Pavilion. There will be hostas, perennials, grasses, annuals, containers and more. Proceeds benefit community horticulture projects.

New London United Methodist Women Yard and Bake Sale is from 8 am to 2 pm at NLUM Church. Lunch will be served from 11 to 1 with options of creamed chicken on a biscuit, beef burgers, hot dogs and homemade pie.

The New London Fire Department hosts a Spaghetti Dinner from 3 to 7 pm. The meal is by freewill donation.

The Lincoln Street Baptist Church Rummage Sale is from 8 am to 2 pm at 1206 North Lincoln. There will be free refreshments.

New London’s Citywide Sales from from 8 am to 5 pm today. Maps are available at Casey’s, Jet Stop and Short Stop. There are also numerous meals and fundraisers going on throughout the day.

IWC Homecoming continues today with a breakfast at the Howe Student Activity Center at 8:30 am. A baccalaureate service is at 10:30 am at the Chapel Auditorium. A lunch buffet will be serviced from 11:30 to 1 at the Dining Hall and Commencement starts at 1:30 with speaker Fredric Volkmann. A reception will follow on the campus lawn. A worship service begins at 5:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church.

Mediapolis Citywide Sales are this week with nearly 100 sales taking place. Listings and locations are available at Mediapolis News.

ISU Extension hosts a Tree Planting and Young Tree Care Workshop at the Lee County Fairgrounds in Donnellson from 10 to 11 am. DNR District Forrester Lisa Louck will present the program. This is free and open to the public but registration is requested.

Ainsworth Community Center Opera House has their breakfast buffet fundraiser today from 7 to 9 am. Cost is $7 with children under 10 free.

Better Block Burlington is from 10 am to 3 pm on Main Street. It is sponsored by Des Moines County Living Well and will feature a fun run, bike parade, Zumba, health and fitness testing, food vendors and more.

Healthy Communities free run/walk/bike/trike will start at 8:30 am at Swedesburg Lutheran Church. Children’s activities will run from 10 am to noon.

March for Babies will be held at Great River Medical Center. Check-in is at 8 am. For more information call 563-323-6378.

Phelps House Museum of Burlington opens for the season today. Hours are 1:30 to 4:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday through October.

Van and the Movers, a rhythm and blues band performs at 7:30 pm at the Capitol Theater in Burlington. Tickets are available by calling 237-1099.

Opening for the season is the Van Buren County Welcome Center and McCoy Historical Museum in Keosauqua. Hours are 10 am to 3 pm with tours, music and refreshments available.

Breakfast on Main is hosted by Bonaparte TOPS. The event is at the Bonaparte Opera House Community Room from 7 to 9 am. The menu consists of biscuits and gravy, sausage and bacon wraps, breakfast cups and beverages.

The Mt. Pleasant Public Library hosts a Cinco de Mayo party from 11 am to 1 pm. Everyone of all ages are welcome and people may bring platters to share. There will be food, coffee and other refreshments.

A multi-media show takes audience members through the 70’s with the events and popular items from the decade with songs from Elton John and Billy Joel. Relay for Life Team No One Walks Alone hosts a Mother’s Day Gift Sale from 8 am to 2 pm at Kramer’s Gas Station in Salem. Gift baskets are made by team members and proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Farmington United Methodist Church has a Fundraiser Breakfast from 7 to 10 am at the Hel-Mart Community Room. Monies raised go towards Imagine No Malaria.

New London VFW hosts a Catfish and Chicken Dinner from 5 to 7:30 pm. The meal includes a roll and two sides. Catfish is $9.50 and chicken is $7.

A Spaghetti Supper to benefit Camp Courageous will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Mt. Pleasant Veterans Hall. The meal is by freewill donation with money going to send kids to camp. Music will be performed by the Troubadors. The event is sponsored by AmVets and Sons of AmVets.

A Cotillion Club Dance will be held at the West Point American Legion Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Polyester Blend from Cedar Rapids performs. Nonmember admission is $10.

The Healthy Henry County Communities Run/Walk/Bike/Trike Event originally scheduled for last Saturday will start at 8:30 am outside of the Swedesburg Lutheran Church.

Main Street BBQ will be held in Fort Madison from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Gate admission is $5 and that includes unlimited sampling.

The Outdoor Youth Jamboree will be held at Big Hollow Recreation Area in Sperry. The event runs from 9 am to 2 pm. The events are free.

A Tacos and Enchiladas Sale will be held at the LULAC Club in Fort Madison from 3 to 7 pm. The sale benefits Fort Madison Wrestlers.

Mediapolis FFA has a plant sale from 8 am to 4 pm at the Mediapolis Greenhouse. A variety of plants and vegetables will be available.
