Denmark Heritage Days starts today at Star Park in Denmark. Engine registration is at 7 am. Breakfast will be at the shelter house from 7:30 to 9 am. A parade will be at noon. There will be karaoke throughout the day. Lunch will be at the fire station from 11 to 2. Anvil blastoff is from 11 to 2:15. Silver Steppers are at 1 pm. Kids games start at 1:30, the auction at 2:30 and the Bill Riley Talent Show at 3. Live music by Ned Francis will be from 5:30 to 8:30. A 5K is at 6:30 and movie in the park starts at 8:30.

An Opening Reception for artist Preston Jackson will be from 2 to 4 pm at the Art Center of Burlington. Admission is free and his works will be on display through July 28th.

Friends of the Burlington Public Library’s Book Sale is from 8 am to 5 pm at the library.

Denmark Townwide Yard Sales are from 8 am to 5 pm. Maps will be available at local businesses.

Winfield Stay Active is today. Citywide sales start at 8. The free swim at Twin Lakes is from 1 to 4 pm. Big Wheel and Small Bike starts at 3:30 pm and Bike Around Winfield starts at 4. Kids games are at 4:30 with horseshoes, volleyball and a bags tournament starting at 5. Cost is $5. A meal with homemade ice cream will be served at 5:30 and it by freewill donation. Karaoke starts at 8 pm.

Winfield Citywide Garage and Yard Sales are today, rain or shine.

The Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance hosts the final public forum with area lawmakers for the 2013 session from 8:30 to 10 am at the IWC Chadwick Library. Rep. Dave Heaton and Sen. Rich Taylor will deliver a summary of session accomplishments and will answer questions from the audience. The public is encouraged to attend.

Sunnybrook Assisted Living hosts “Sunnybrook Assisted Living hosts “Coffee Chat” at 10 am with Jeffrey Meyer from the Mt. Pleasant Public Library.” at 10 am with Jeffrey Meyer from the Mt. Pleasant Public Library.

“Fly Me To the Moon” a tribute to Bart Howard will be performed at the Tama Event Center in Burlington starting at 8 pm. It features renowned singer Joyce Breach. Cost is $30. For reservations call 572-6637.

A Swedish Pancake Breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 am at the Swedesburg Parish Hall. The meal consists of Swedish pancakes with ligenberries, potato sausage and homemade rolls.

Starr’s Cave presents an insect program. It’s a two-hour interactive program for 3 to 4 year olds. Children and a guardian will learn about them and the different types from Naturalist Katherine Brakeville. It will include a craft, story, hike and hands-on activities. It starts at 10 am and wraps up with a picnic lunch at 11:30. Cost is $5 per child. To register call 753-5808.

The Mt. Pleasant Family Aquatic Center opens for the season today. They are open 1 to 7 pm daily.

Instead of walking your dog in town by themselves, bring them to Mt. Pleasant’s Central Park from 9:00 a.m. to Noon for a day out for doggies. There will be Dog Contests with many categories available and an obstacle course for dogs and their owners to participate in. There will be vendors, photo shoots, free prizes and lots of fun for you and your dog while raising money for Relay for Life. Cost is only $10.00. Becker’s Jewelry has donated a diamond for a Diamond Dig. You may purchase tickets for the Diamond Dig at the event. The fastest time to find the diamond wins. The Fairfield Area Community Theater presents The 1940’s Radio Hour at the Sondheim Center. Cost is $15 for general admission or $12 for students. Showtime is 7:30 pm.

FAIRfest 2013 continues in Fairfield today with a New Orleans theme. National music groups will perform and expect artisan food and specialty vendors. The focus is on sustainable solutions with most activities in the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center. There will be featured speakers as well.

Take a Kid Flying Day will be held at the Big Hollow Recreation Area’s Polson Flying Field from 10 am to 2 pm. Children can learn how to fly radio-controlled and control-line model airplanes. This is a free event.

Burlington Steamboat Days Parade starts at 11 am on Jefferson Street.

“The Wonderland of 1800s Bridal Gowns” with gowns and accessories from that time period will open today at the Phelps Museum in Burlington.

A Kids Fishing Tournament runs from 7:30 to 11 am at Pollmiller Park in West Point. Cost is $2 per child.

Kalona Days will be held today. There will be food vendors, kiddie train rides, an antique car show and entertainment. A French toast breakfast will be held at the Kalona United Methodist Church from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

A Juneteenth Celebration will be held in Burlington at the White Memorial Park. Numerous singers will perform, there will be numerous activities and a cakewalk. Activities start at 10 am.

Donnellson Citywide Sales are from 8 am to 1 pm. Maps are available at Benner’s BP.

The 8th annual All Things Italian Street Festival is on the Fairfield square today. There will be music, food, dance, art and activities from 5 to 10 pm. Activities include sidewalk chalk art, lawn bowling, face painting, soccer and arts and crafts. The events are free and open to the public. It will be held rain or shine.

Fly Van Buren runs today. The 13th annual event includes a breakfast at the Keosauqua Municipal Airport from 7 to 10 am. The Keosauqua Lions Club sponsors the all you can eat pancake and sausage breakfast. Cost is $7. All pilots are free. There will also be an Ottumwa Radio-Control Flyers demonstration of remote control airplanes. The Indian Hills Aviation Department will also have a jet engine demonstration. You can learn more about a career in aviation. There will also be a Water Balloon Bomb Toss and a Paper Airplane Contest. There is no admission cost and will be activities throughout the day.

Night in the Islands, Mon! will be at McMillan Park from 6 to 10 pm. Jimmy Buffet cover band Cedar Island Band will perform. There is a $10 cover charge with food and beverages available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the Union Block revitalization.
