Collection this year will run for one week and will be on your normal collection day. You are required to use a minimum of six stickers for your entire pile. This is the last day to register for HCHC Diabetes Team’s Education Series. This is a two day program running on Tuesday, April 23rd and April 30th in the new Diabetes Education Center. They are open to anyone with type 1 or 2 diabetes. There is a fee for the program however most insurance plans cover it. To register or for more information, contact 385-6518.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Club M and the Child Abuse Council are sponsoring two training sessions at the ISU Extension Building. Both run from 6 to 7 pm. One is for adults and mentors and the other is directed towards children. Experts will discuss ways in which to prevent and detect child abuse and teach children how to protect themselves. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance Government Affairs Committee is once again affording Henry County residents the opportunity to share their views with state lawmakers at a series of public forums during the Iowa legislative session. The monthly forums will be held from 8:30 to 10:00a.m. beginning this morning and continuing on the fourth Saturday of February, March and April. The forums will take place in the International Room of Chadwick Library at Iowa Wesleyan College.

National Drug Take Back Day runs from 10 am to 2 pm. Clean out your medicine cabinet and safely disposed of any unused and expired prescriptions or over the counter medications. ABATE – A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education – has their 28th annual Leather Run. Signup starts at 9:30 am at the Beachfront in Wever. Everyone leaves at 11 am. Cost is $5 for ABATE members, $7 for non-members. The ride will have several stops in southeast Iowa. All riders will be back by 5 pm. Entertainment will be provided by G Spot. A silent auction starts at 5 pm. Proceeds from the event will go to member Donnie Denny’s family.
