A Burlington DoorDash driver is warning others after losing $1,400 to someone posing as a company representative.
Robin Stivers says the incident began when she accepted a cash-on-delivery order, but found no customer at the delivery address. A caller who appeared to be from DoorDash then contacted her and claimed her identity needed to be verified.
Stivers says the caller directed her to transfer money in three transactions totaling $1,400. She later encountered a similar scheme but recognized it and refused to send more money.
DoorDash says it will never ask drivers for passwords, verification codes or banking information by telephone, text or email. The company removed the customer’s account and says it is cooperating with law enforcement.
Burlington Police said it had not received reports of similar scams. The Better Business Bureau advises anyone receiving a suspicious call to hang up and contact the company through its verified application or official contact information.
