Burlington Man Sentenced to 78 Months in Prison for Illegal Possession of Firearm

A Burlington man will spend more than six years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm.

Tyler Keith Jennings, 39, was sentenced Wednesday to 78 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to federal court documents, Jennings was a passenger in a vehicle that fled from police in September 2025. When the vehicle stopped, Jennings pulled a firearm on officers, racked the slide and fled on foot.

The driver later told investigators Jennings had held a gun to his head and ordered him to flee from officers. A later search of a residence where Jennings had been staying uncovered firearms and ammunition.

At the time, Jennings had absconded from state supervision and had outstanding warrants for probation and parole violations. His prior felony convictions prohibit him from possessing firearms.

The case was investigated by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Police Department, Southeast Iowa Narcotics Taskforce and West Burlington Police Department.

There is no parole in the federal prison system.
