Burlington Woman Accused of Embezzling More Than $58,000

A Burlington woman faces multiple felony charges following an investigation into alleged embezzlement from a local construction business.

The Burlington Police Department says Sherry Crow, 57, was arrested Friday following a two-month investigation.

Court documents allege Crow wrote unauthorized checks to herself and Crow Contracting Service while working as a secretary for G-and-B Construction. The business owner reported discovering the activity after learning the company’s checking account was overdrawn.

Investigators identified 110 checks totaling $58,824. Court documents allege Crow used a rubber stamp bearing the owner’s signature and that ATM surveillance recorded her depositing several checks.

Crow is charged with first-degree theft, ongoing criminal conduct and eight counts of forgery. She was taken to the Des Moines County Correctional Center.

A charge is merely an accusation, and Crow is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
