Fairfield Man Arrested Following High-Speed Pursuit

A Fairfield man was arrested Tuesday evening following a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 77 miles per hour.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy observed a maroon Toyota pickup attempting to pass several vehicles in a no-passing zone on Old Highway 34 west of Fairfield at approximately 6:48 p.m.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the pickup allegedly failed to pull over and continued west on Old Highway 34 before turning back east and heading toward Libertyville.

The pursuit entered Libertyville, where officers used a PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Jacob Bickford of Selma, was arrested and charged with eluding, speeding and reckless driving. He was being held on a $1,000 bond.

The Fairfield Police Department assisted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

A charge is merely an accusation; a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
