Fairfield Community School District will have additional funding to purchase Iowa-grown and Iowa-raised food for student meals.
Fairfield Food Service received a $1,600 grant through the Choose Iowa Local Food for Schools Program. The district will provide a $1,600 match from its Food Service Fund, creating $3,200 for local-food purchases.
Eligible products include Iowa-produced meat, poultry, eggs, honey, produce, flour, small grains and dairy products other than milk.
The program is intended to place more locally produced food on school menus while creating additional markets for Iowa farmers and food businesses.
