A small gas leak was discovered and repaired Monday evening outside New London Junior-Senior High School.
According to the New London Community School District, an individual working at the school noticed the smell of gas outside the building and immediately reported it to administrators.
Local emergency personnel responded to investigate, and Alliant Energy was called to conduct testing. The source was identified as a small leak at an exterior gas valve outside the school.
The district says the valve was reset and the problem corrected. As an additional precaution, the inside of the building was checked to make sure there were no other concerns.
School officials say the issue has been fully addressed, the building is safe for students and staff, and classes will continue as normal Tuesday.
The district thanked the person who reported the smell, along with local emergency personnel and Alliant Energy for their quick response.
