An Illinois man faces several charges in Henry County after authorities say he stole a vehicle in Mount Pleasant and used a credit card found inside.
Jeffery Allen Horton, age 35, of Moline, Illinois, is charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, along with two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card under $1,500, each an aggravated misdemeanor.
According to court records, a vehicle was stolen from the QuickVisit Urgent Care parking lot on North Grand Avenue in January of 2025. Investigators valued the vehicle at more than $33,000.
Authorities allege Horton drove the vehicle to Hamilton, Illinois, and used a credit card found inside to make two purchases totaling $359.59. The vehicle was recovered unoccupied the following day.
Court documents say surveillance footage and witness identifications connected Horton to the vehicle and credit-card transactions.
Horton also faces a simple misdemeanor charge for allegedly giving a Henry County deputy a family member’s name during a separate investigation near Wayland.
All charges are accusations, and Horton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
