Iowa drivers are paying considerably more at the pump this week, with both gasoline and diesel prices continuing to climb.
According to AAA, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $4.34 per gallon across Iowa Wednesday, an increase of 23 cents in just one week. That’s also $1.42 more per gallon than Iowa drivers were paying a year ago.
The national average climbed even faster, increasing 38 cents over the week to $4.74 per gallon.
Diesel prices in Iowa increased another 16 cents to an average of $6.28 per gallon. A year ago, diesel averaged $3.51 in the state. Iowa’s current price remains 24 cents below the national diesel average of $6.52.
Interestingly, crude oil prices moved in the opposite direction this week. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $11.37 to $92.64 per barrel, while Brent crude fell $4.89 to $102.73.
