Iowa Voters Encouraged to Plan Ahead for November Election

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is encouraging eligible voters to begin making plans for the November 3 General Election.

Iowans may vote by mail, cast an absentee ballot in person or vote at their polling place on Election Day.

Absentee voting begins Wednesday, October 14. That is also the first day county auditors may mail ballots to voters who have requested them.

Requests for mailed absentee ballots must reach the voter’s county auditor by 5 p.m. Monday, October 19. In-person absentee voting at county auditors’ offices continues through Monday, November 2.

Completed absentee ballots must reach the county auditor by 8 p.m. on Election Day. The U.S. Postal Service recommends mailing ballots at least one week before the election to allow time for delivery.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 3.

Absentee-ballot request forms, registration information and other election resources are available through the state’s official Voter Ready website.
