The Jefferson County Treasurer’s Office is now offering both walk-in and appointment options for driver’s-license and identification-card services.
Appointments are encouraged and will receive priority, but walk-in customers are also welcome. Driving-skills tests will continue to require an appointment.
The treasurer’s office says its appointment-only system issued about 10% more credentials than the previous first-come, first-served approach. However, feedback showed residents were evenly divided between appointments and walk-in service.
An additional employee, supported by revenue from increased vehicle-title fees and a new $10 fee for out-of-county credential customers, allowed the office to adopt the hybrid system.
