McMillan Park Closure This Weekend

McMillan Park in Mount Pleasant will be closed to vehicle traffic for portions of this weekend while Midwest Central Railroad hosts a private photography event.

The event Saturday and Sunday is limited to 30 invited photographers and is not open to the public. Trains may move forward and reverse at unusual times during the event, and railroad crossings could be blocked for extended periods while photographs are taken.

The Farmers Market will operate as normal Saturday morning. The main park road will remain open from 6 a.m. until noon, with regular parking and access available.

Beginning at noon Saturday, McMillan Park will close to vehicle traffic until 10 p.m. The main road will reopen overnight before closing again from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Barricades will begin coming down at 4 p.m. Sunday, starting at the east and west main gates, and the park will then fully reopen.

Event participants will park on private property rather than in city parking areas.

Residents are asked to respect barricades and signage, stay clear of railroad tracks and crossings, and allow extra travel time if a crossing is blocked.

The City of Mount Pleasant says the temporary closures are intended to protect residents, railroad crews and event participants during the private charter.
