The Midwest Old Threshers Reunion gets underway Wednesday in Mount Pleasant, and anyone heading to the grounds or lining the streets for the Harvest Day Parade will want to prepare for some serious late-summer heat.
The National Weather Service says hot and humid conditions will continue across southeast Iowa this week, with a Heat Advisory in effect through Thursday. High temperatures are expected to reach the 90s, with peak heat index values around 100 degrees or higher during the afternoon and early evening.
That heat will coincide with one of the first big events of Reunion week — Wednesday’s Harvest Day Parade through Mount Pleasant.
The parade begins at 3:30 p.m., starting near East Sheaffer Drive. The route travels north to East Washington Street, then west along Washington Street through downtown Mount Pleasant before ending near Jefferson Street.

Those attending the parade or spending the day at the Old Threshers grounds are encouraged to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and keep a close eye on children, older adults and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.
The National Weather Service says the hottest conditions are expected during the afternoon and early evening — right as Wednesday’s parade and Reunion activities get underway.
