National 4-H week starts Sunday, October 4th through Saturday, October 10th. As America’s largest youth development organization, 4-H empowers 6 million young people nationwide with hands-on learning experiences through clubs, camps, school programs, and community events. Through the Beyond Ready initiative, 4-H will help prepare 10 million youth for work and life by 2030. Henry County 4-H is a place for every young person to discover what interests them, build new skills and find where they belong. Youth can step into leadership through their clubs and community service, build confidence through public speaking, learn the responsibility of caring for and exhibiting livestock, or turn an interest into a 4-H project.
Emily Holtkamp is the Henry County Youth Coordinator and is looking forward to beginning the new 4-H year. Holtkamp is excited about the strong 4-H community in Henry County. There is a strong foundation with the program continuing to grow and new opportunities created.
The ISU Extension and Outreach Henry County Office and its team of educators, volunteers, and mentors deliver 4-H programs that help youth learn by doing. From showcasing their talents through projects at the Henry County Fair to giving back through club-led community service projects that make a difference right here in Henry County, youth are learning skills such as teamwork, resilience, and communication—skills that will serve them in their career and for life.
New and returning 4-H and Clover Kids families are invited to an open house to kick off 4-H week. The event is from 2pm – 4pm at the Henry County Extension Office, 127 N. Main Street in Mt. Pleasant. Meet local 4-H & Clover Kid clubs and members, explore fun activities, and get enrolled or re-enrolled for the year. Refreshments will be served.
