National Program Provides Books and Supplies to WMU Students

Preschool and kindergarten students at Winfield-Mount Union Elementary have received new books and school supplies through a national literacy program.

WMU was selected as Iowa’s recipient for this year’s “Cat in the Pack” Backpack Build, sponsored by the nonprofit organization First Book.

Each student received a backpack containing Dr. Seuss reading and activity books along with school supplies.

WMU band instructor Lindsey Pogmore applied for the program. Members of her sixth-grade advisory group helped distribute the backpacks to the younger students.

First Book says it provides books and educational resources to more than 6 million children in low-income communities across North America each year.
