Prep Volleyball- The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) released the sixth edition of their rankings this season and one of our local teams fell in the polls, despite not losing since mid-September. Beyond the surprise move, the top teams of each class kept their spots.
Class 5A
The top 10 remained relatively unchanged with Ankeny shuffling its way into to the top three preceded by Waukee Northwest and Dallas Center-Grimes, respectively. The Mustangs are an impressive 25-0 for the season.
No teams were knocked out of the top 15, but #10 Johnston did rise in the ranks from #13 after a successful week.
Class 4A
Assumption, Norwalk, and Western Dubuque remain as the top three teams in Class 4A, as Clear Creek Amana was knocked down a peg from #4 to #5 this week. Bondurant-Farrar had the farthest fall in the polls, going form #8 to #15. Yet, #14 Winterset did replace Wahlert Catholic in the standings.
Class 3A
There was a bit of a mix-up at the top of the standings, as MOC-Floyd Valley jumped up from #6 in the standings to #2 this week. Western Christian is still the #1 team in the polls.
Treynor was the only team ousted from the rankings, as Unity Christian went from unranked to #12 this week, despite a 10-8 record for the season.
Class 2A
Not much changed about the Class 2A rankings with the top five remaining the same and no teams were removed from the polls. Hinton is 16-1 on the year and on top of the standings, followed by Grundy Center and Union.
Two undefeated teams still remain in the top 15 with #5 Riverside at 16-0 and #14 Garner-Hayfield-Ventura sitting at 26-0.
Class 1A
The Class 1A rankings put Holy Trinity Catholic at #5, as Boyden-Hull and Wapsie Valley leapfrogged Janesville and the Crusaders in the polls. The Warriors picked up a 2-1 win over Janesville at a quad last week. The team to beat once again is Ankeny Christian, as they have lost only one match this season.
Holy Trinity Catholic has not dropped a set during their 15-game winning streak, which included taking their third straight Southeast Iowa Super Conference title. Elizabeth Griffin has evolved as a setter, leading the team with 356 assists to go along with her 31 aces. Leading the attack is Adalyn Kruse. The senior sits north of 1,000 career kills, as she is swinging at a 0.270 clip for the season.
St Ansgar and Sidney were knocked out of the top 15 and replaced by #14 Newman Catholic and #15 North Cedar.
