Rededication of DAR Historic Marker, Stephenson Park, Lowell: CANCELLED/WEATHER

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!

The James Harlan Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution invite you to the rededication of the restored historic marker in Stephenson Park, in Lowell, Iowa.  The event begins at 2pm this afternoon. The original marker was placed in 1930 to commemorate the first mills in Henry County.  The mill was a grist mill on the north side of the Skunk River and a sawmill on the south side.  There will be a brief ceremony on the history of the mills, built in 1837 and operated until 1911.  Refreshments will be served at the park’s new picnic shelter.

Thank you to all who helped with the restoration project, especially Caleb Waters and the Henry County Conservation Department, who oversee the park, Jason McClure and McClure Masonry with reconstruction of the marker. Also, appreciation to the William M. and Donna J. Hoaglin Foundation, Inc., the Enhance Henry County Community Foundation and the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission for help with funding.
