Rep. Taylor Collins (R-Mediapolis) released the below statement following a special session of the General Assembly to bring the largest economic development project in state history to Southeast Iowa – a $15 billion steel mill that will create 1,750 permanent high paying jobs and 6,000 construction jobs.
“Today in Des Moines the attention of the entire state was focused on Southeast Iowa,” said Rep. Collins. “Americans will no longer have to rely on Chinese steel. Instead, we are reshoring production to the United States and bringing it to Southeast Iowa. Mesabi Metallics choosing to locate in our state is no accident – they found a tax, regulatory, and business climate built to compete. Iowa did not win the lottery when it comes to this project – we made ourselves the better bet.”
