Signs on Public Property Reminder as Election Season Ramps Up

The City of Mount Pleasant is reminding residents, businesses, organizations and political campaigns that signs cannot be placed in the public right-of-way, on public sidewalks or other City-owned property.

City Code also prohibits attaching signs to utility poles, traffic signs or poles, control stations, trees and natural features unless specifically permitted.

Signs must not block a driver’s view near roadways, intersections or driveways. They also cannot obstruct or resemble an official traffic sign, signal or device.

Temporary signs must be located entirely on private property and comply with all other City requirements. Anyone unsure about the boundary between private property and the public right-of-way should contact Mount Pleasant City Hall before placing a sign.

The City is asking for the public’s cooperation in keeping streets, sidewalks, intersections and other public areas safe and accessible.
