Southeast Iowa Playbook

Danville was our school of focus for last night’s episode of the Southeast Iowa Playbook with special guests senior Colin Vaughan and junior Alivia Bauer joining the program. After losing their first game of the season, the Bear football team has rattled off four straight victories but over the next three weeks they will be challenged by ACGC and Pekin, who have a combined record of 10-1. Vaughan talked about what the team has been focusing on heading into those showdowns,

“We’ve really been focusing on winning first down and turning the ball over, winning the turnovers in the game. That helps us win games. Stopping the run. We’ve been focusing on the run for ACGC, for Pekin, those run-heavy teams.”

The volleyball team is experiencing a youth movement with three sophomores consistently in the starting lineup. Yet, the Bears have managed to knock off two ranked teams this year, including Burlington Notre Dame twice, where Bauer has tabbed 43 kills in those three victories. The junior mentioned that the wins were instrumental in inspiring this young team,

“They were very big for us, for our school and for our team, especially. Over these past few years, we’ve been struggling with finishing the game and just knowing we beat two ranked teams and finishing the game was a huge confidence boost for our team and just letting us know we can do this.”
