High School Volleyball
Mt. Pleasant got to celebrate Senior Night in style after defeating Fort Madison in four sets last night by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 24-26, and 25-20. Although it was a freshman that made her mark for the Panthers, as Peyton Duplessis tabbed 16 assists, 11 kills, six aces, and a block in the winning effort. Panther head coach Alicia Schrader was happy Duplessis could exhibit all of her skills last night,
“Yeah, she’s a very fun player. Able to really do anything and she’s so controlled. A great setter and people don’t know it sometimes that she’s also an amazing hitter, which is why we do what we do and why we have a 6-2 because I have two setters that can set the ball and we have two great hitters. So, we definitely want to use them in both places.”
Each senior had their moment, as Jenna Schwartz finished the night with seven kills and three blocks, Breana White clocked five kills, and Paige Newton added 15 digs and seven assists to the effort. Coach Schrader highlighted each of their skills after the game,
“Oh, man. They are such a fun group. Great teammates. Great leaders. Jenna [Schwartz] has been so fun. I mean, I think she has improved so much from last year. I mean, they are all a huge part of our team, obviously. But, Jenna is hard to stop in the middle and her blocking is huge. Paige’s [Newton] serve-receive is so money. And, then Bre [White] is obviously a great outside hitter. And, her control tonight was really, really fun to see. She is really coming along on her off-speed shots. And, it was fun to see tonight.”
