High School Cross Country Rankings

The Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) has had the tough task of ranking both the teams and individuals despite some teams still waiting to run for the first time this year. Nevertheless, southeast Iowa has been able to make their case in the third edition of the rankings this year.

For Class 3A, the Washington boys’ team jumped into the top 20 at #19 after previously being unranked. On the individual side, Parker Tschantz fell six spots to #30 after the Bob Brown invitational was canceled. However, making his first ever appearance in the rankings was Mt. Pleasant’s Silas Hulett at #15. The Panther turned in a 6th place time of 17 minutes and 19 seconds at the Dutch Invite over the weekend.

In Class 2A, the Notre Dame/West Burlington boys’ team entered the top 20 at #17 with Cavin Denny claiming a spot at #28, while Hannah Ritter grabbed the #26 slot on the girls’ side. The Central Lee girls’ team stayed put at #20 after winning the Keokuk Invite last week.

Lastly, the Columbus boys’ team kept their #2-ranking in the Class 1A polls, as they await to run their first race of the season, while the Van Buren County girls’ team climbed up to #6.

High School Football

Mt. Pleasant will get to stay at home when they host Oskaloosa on Friday, September 11th, at 7:30 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm. Panther head coach John Bowlin is looking for his team to start fast,

“You know, they got a lot of athletes. When I watched their first week, I thought that they look very similar to us in a way, so we’re going to have to be kind of ready for all aspects of the game and just keep working on us and shoring up our assignment and keys and just keep getting better and play physical, and we got to get started. We can’t have that hiccup on the, you know, first quarter like we have the last two weeks. We got to come out and be ready to play.”

Wapello will be looking to pull off the upset on Friday against Pekin with kickoff at 7 pm at home.

WACO will travel to play HLV-TC on Friday at 7 pm.
