A Washington man already facing arson charges has now been charged with insurance fraud and theft.
Keith Charlier, 41, is charged with insurance fraud by presenting false information and second-degree theft, both Class D felonies.
Court records allege Charlier submitted an insurance claim seeking up to $310,000 for structural damage, $210,000 for personal property and $1,400 per month for temporary living expenses. He allegedly represented that a residential fire was accidental and received a $2,500 emergency payment from the insurance company.
Investigators later alleged that Charlier intentionally set and staged the fire.
Charlier was already being held in the Washington County Jail on three counts each of second-degree arson and reckless use of fire or explosives. Those charges stem from separate vehicle and residential fires at the same Washington address in November 2025.
A court date on the new charges has not been announced.
A charge is merely an accusation, and Charlier is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
