Winfield Avenue Reconstruction More Than 85% Complete; Despite Weather Delays

Construction in Mt. Pleasant continues with the Winfield Avenue Reconstruction Project, the new trail, and the North Main Street sidewalk improvements.  The Winfield Avenue project is more than 85% complete, with approximately two-thirds of the contract time used.

Jones Contracting has completed the mainline concrete pavement on Winfield Avenue from Broadway Street to Grand Avenue. Concrete has also been placed at the Palm Avenue and James Avenue intersection, except for one driveway just west of Palm Avenue.

Crews are currently working to complete the remaining driveways and trail sections between Palm Avenue and Grand Avenue. Recent rain showers have made concrete placement challenging, but work has continued whenever conditions permit.

Stevens Erosion Control, the project’s seeding subcontractor, recently completed most of the final grading, seeding, and mulching between Broadway Street and Lincoln Street before rain interrupted the work.

Reseeding the trail area along the east side of Grand Avenue is also planned to replace the temporary grass. The contractor prioritized permanent seeding in residential lawn areas during the recent period of workable weather. Some final grading remains in the ditches and yards between Lincoln Street and Grand Avenue. The City of Mt. Pleasant and contractors will work to complete the remaining grading and seeding as soon as weather and ground conditions allow.

Work is also progressing on the North Main Street sidewalk improvements. All intersection ramps have been constructed, and crews have made a good start on the remaining sidewalk work. The project was originally expected to be completed by the end of September, but because of wet conditions, additional time will likely be required.

The City of Mount Pleasant appreciates the patience of residents, property owners, businesses, and motorists and also recognizes the contractors for continuing to make progress despite challenging weather conditions
