Girls’ High School Basketball

Mt. Pleasant will open their season with a road matchup against Pella on November 21st. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will have the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.

Mediapolis and Danville will compete on November 21st at 6 pm. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will face off against New London on Friday, November 17th, at home. 

WACO will start their season against Pekin on November 21st in a road matchup. 

Central Lee will host Winfield-Mt. Union on Saturday, November 18th. 

Holy Trinity Catholic will travel to Keokuk to take on the Chiefs on Saturday at 1 pm. 

High School Football

For 8-player, Bishop Garrigan and Bedford will compete for the state championship tomorrow, November 16th, at 9:30 am. 

In Class A, Woodbury Central and West Hancock will face off tomorrow at 1 pm.

The Class 1A championship game will be played tomorrow at 4 pm against MFL MarMac and defending champion Grundy Center. 

For the Class 2A championship, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock and Van Meter will compete on Friday, November 17th, at 10 am. 

For Class 3A, Williamsburg and Bishop Heelan will face off on Friday at 1 pm for the championship. 

For Class 4A, Western Dubuque and Lewis Central will play tomorrow at 7 pm.

Ankeny and Southeast Polk will compete for the Class 5A state championship on Friday at 7 pm.

Southeast Iowa Playbook

Tune in to KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, tonight at 6 pm for a new episode of the Southeast Iowa Playbook. Hear from some of the local basketball coaches as they preview their respective season. 

College Football

Iowa State University will take on Texas this Saturday, November 18th, at home.  

Iowa will host Illinois on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

College Basketball

The Iowa State men’s team’s next game will be at home in a matchup with Grambling State on November 19th at noon. 

The Iowa State women’s team will host Southern on November 20th at 6:30 pm.

The #2 Iowa women’s team will face off against Kansas State at home tomorrow, November 16th, at 7:30 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM will have the call.

The Iowa men’s team played tough, but ultimately fell to #8 Creighton last night 92-84. Ben Krikke led the way with 24 points in the losing effort. The Hawkeyes will face off against Arkansa State on Friday, November 17th, at 7 pm. 

Iowa Athletic Recognition

Nanea Estrella was tabbed USA Wrestling’s Athlete of the Week. Estrella is ranked third in her weight class and defeated Paige Wehrmeister, the second-ranked wrestler in the weight class, 12-2. 

Caitlin Clark’s record breaking performance last week that included an average of 32 points, 9 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game earned her Associated Press and the United States Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week.

2015 – Holly Holm defeats UFC Champion Ronda Rousey in an upset in Melbourne, Australia.

2018 – LeBron James passes Wilt Chamberlain for 5th on the NBA’s career scoring list with 44 points for the LA Lakers in a 126-117 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers at the Staples Center, Los Angeles. He is now first on the list.
