He Is Coming Soon: Christmas with Iowa Wesleyan, a Service of Lessons & Carols

Iowa Wesleyan University invites the community to celebrate the holiday season with the time-honored tradition of Lessons & Carols, a service highlighting the Iowa Wesleyan Music Department students and music performers within the Southeast Iowa Community.

This sacred concert entitled “He Is Coming Soon” will be held live, in person, on Saturday, December 4, and Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 7 pm in the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Join IW as they celebrate the holiday season with traditional and contemporary choral and instrumental music paired with scriptures that recount the Christmas story.

“Lessons & Carols is the culmination of an entire season of teaching and learning. It is a true blessing to have the return of something so traditional and special for our campus and community and be able to offer a live performance once again,” said Blair Buffington, Director of Choral Activities and Artistic Director of the event. “We want to share a message of hope and peace this year, and music is the gift we have been given to deliver that message.”

There is no charge for attending the event, but reservations are required. Seats may be reserved by visiting www.iw.edu/carols/ or by calling (319) 385-6215. A free-will offering will be taken at the end of the service to benefit the students in the IW Music Department.

Teen Arrested and Charged With Threat of Terrorism

On the evening of November 15, the Fairfield Police Department received multiple calls from the public reporting a Snapchat message that was being shared and warning of a shooting at Fairfield High School the next day.  Officers immediately followed up on these calls and quickly determined that the post did not pose any threat to the community.

The person named on the account was interviewed.  The account did not belong to that person and had been created by someone else.  Officers were able to find the source of the fake account and the source admitted to making the post.  As a result of this investigation, a 15-year-old youth was arrested and charged in juvenile court with Threat of Terrorism, a D Felony.

The Fairfield Police Department would like to thank the public for their quick intervention and encourage people to continue to contact law enforcement when they have concerns.  Due to the help of the public and the quick work of law enforcement, it was determined that there were no credible threats towards the school and classes were able to proceed on a regular schedule.

Questions regarding the law enforcement response should be addressed to the Fairfield Police Department.  Questions regarding the juvenile court process should be addressed to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office.

A delinquent charge is only an accusation, and juvenile defendants are innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Daily Jail Count

In the interest of keeping Henry County residents informed, the Henry County Sheriff’s office has requested KILJ post the daily jail count. During the jail referendum campaign it was publicized that the jail would be able to house additional inmates from surrounding counties and this would generate revenue for Henry County.
