Prep Track: Mount Pleasant Girls’ Victorious at Fairfield

The Mount Pleasant girls’ track team won six events, rolling to a win at the Brookhart-Crew Relays last night at Fairfield High School.

Mount Pleasant scored 183 points, besting second place Davis County and third place Fairfield.

The Panthers got strong field event performances, picking up three wins in the high jump, long jump and shot put.

In the shot, Jadan Brumbaugh broke her own school record — again — with a toss of 49 feet, nine inches.

Abby Blint earned a win in the 1,500m run in 5:16.79 while Kenna Lamm won the 100m hurdles in 16.35 seconds.

Lamm also finished second in the 200m and third in the 100m.

Mica Carter was the runner up in the open 400m, finishing in 1:08.37.

Prep Track: Panther Boys’ Second in Fairfield

Washington bested Mount Pleasant by 27 points, as the Demons came away with a championship at the Brookhart-Crew Relays last night.

The Demons racked up 147 points with Mount Pleasant snagging 120.

Mount Pleasant senior Will Davidson — arguably having the best season of any area track athlete — won three events.

Davidson won the 110m hurdles in 15.32 then followed that up with a championship in the 400m hurdles in 56.04.

He also claimed gold in the long jump soaring 20 feet.

Mount Pleasant’s 4×400 grouping of Mason Sloat, Gabe Feldmann, Isaiah Albright and Dylon Hagans were also victors in the 4×400.

That team ran 3:39.81.

Girls’ Tennis’: Burlington Takes Down Mount Pleasant

Savana Walls was Mount Pleasant’s lone winner — 8-2 in No. 1 singles — as Burlington took care of Mount Pleasant 8-1 in a Southeast Conference tennis dual yesterday.

Malena Yocum gave Grace Hecox a fight in No. 4 singles, falling 8-6.

In Doubles play, Emily Woodsmall and Macy McGinity scrapped with Walls and Melanie Olivas to a thrilling 9-7 win.

The Greyhounds swept the other two doubles bouts.

Burlington stayed undefeated in dual play, they’re now 8-0.

Mount Pleasant dropped to 2-8.

Boys’ Tennis: Burlington Capsizes Panthers

A back and forth affair turned into a 5-3 Burlington win yesterday at Dankwardt Park.

Jake Ensminger got Mount Pleasant on the board in No. 2 singles but it was Burlington then who ripped off back to back wins in singles action.

Levi Graber and Linc Henriksen earned a win in No. 2 doubles, 8-6.

No. 3 doubles were rained out.

The loss dropped Mount Pleasant to 7-3.

Burlington upped their ledger to 7-1.

Boys’ Soccer: Greyhounds Goose Egg Mount Pleasant

Burlington got two goals from Braden Schoene as the Greyhounds rolled to a 4-0 win over Mount Pleasant last night at East Lake Park.

Brennen Winke and Teriq Brown were the other goal scorers for Burlington.

Cayden Lowary made two saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The loss dropped Mount Pleasant to 1-11.

Burlington is 7-3.

Girls’ Soccer: Burlington Outlasts Panther Rally

Elly Manning and Andrea Lopreato each scored goals but it was Burlington holding on for a gutsy 3-2 win in a pivotal Southeast Conference fixture.

Evelyn Escobar made six saves despite the loss for Mount Pleasant.

Burlington now has firm control on the league, they’re now 9-1.

Mount Pleasant fell to 6-4 and will look to get back into the win column on Thursday when they play at Fairfield.

Boys’ Golf: Panthers 4th at Fairfield

Mount Pleasant placed fourth yesterday in the eight-team Fairfield Invite.

Nick Matheney paced Mount Pleasant with a 7-over 77.

Reece Kempker carded an 81 while Nate Dismang finished third on the team with a 93.

Washington’s Roman Roth earned medalist honors with a 4-over 74.

Fairfield won the team race with Albia and Washington rounding out the top-three.

Girls’ Golf: Kann Leads Winfield to Win

Isabel Kann led Winfield-Mount Union to a dual win over Hillcrest Academy last night at Twin Lakes Golf Course.

Alli Humphreys carded a 59 while Afton Wilkerson finished with a 67.

Hillcrest did not have enough for a team score.

College Golf: Day One of CAC Tournament Closes Up

The Iowa Wesleyan women’s golf team is in fourth, while the men are in second after the first day of the Continental Athletic Conference tournament.

Aubrey Duncan is in eighth to pace the women, she carded a round one 87.

Trace White is the leader for the men.

The former Mount Pleasant standout is tied for 6th after finishing with a two round total of 157.

Brevin Wilson is in eighth with a 159.

Action rolls on at Burlington Golf Club all throughout the day.
