Today is President’s Day and a Federal Holiday! As you are making plans for today, keeping in mind city, county, state and federal offices are mostly closed today. There will be no postal service, courthouses are closed, and most financial institutions are closed. Locally, Mt. Pleasant and Salem City Offices are closed and the Mt. Pleasant Public Library is closed today.
The Harlan Lincoln House Museum will host An Eyewitness Account of the Battle of Gettysburg on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Union Block Building, 111 West Monroe Street in Mount Pleasant. Presented by Ethan Afshani, the program is based on the diary of Lt. Henry J. Waltz of the 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry and offers a firsthand look at the historic battle. Two sessions will be held at noon and 6:30 pm. Gettysburg artifacts will be on display, and the book will be available for purchase.
Looking ahead to March 8th… It’s Puzzle Palooza at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Mt. Pleasant at 2pm! Tickets are $20/person available at Browns Shoe Fit or by calling 319-931-1300. Snacks are provided and all are welcome. This event is sponsored by P.E.O. chapter OX and proceeds go toward supporting educational opportunities for women.
