High School Golf
The boys’ Class 1A state tournament will take place at Westwood Golf Course today from Newton as Winfield-Mt. Union and Hillcrest Academy’s Rowan Miller get ready to compete.
The boys’ Class 2A state tournament is slated to start today at South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo with Central Lee, Mediapolis, and Burlington Notre Dame’s Sam Yonker making the trip.
The girls’ Class 1A state meet is scheduled to take place at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone on Thursday, May 28th, with Highland and Wapello’s Emmalin Marshall competing.
Burlington Notre Dame’s Alexandria Booten will be heading to the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown on Thursday for the girls’ Class 2A state meet.
The girls’ Class 3A state meet will take place in Cedar Falls at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course on Thursday with Fort Madison’s Kylie Lumino participating.
High School Postseason Soccer
In Class 1A Substate 5, the Mediapolis boys’ team will take on Pella Christian tomorrow, May 27th, at 7 pm on the road.
The Danville boys’ team will travel to Burlington Notre Dame tomorrow at 7 pm.
In Substate 6, the Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ team will hit the road to play Tipton tomorrow at 7 pm.
Over in Class 2A Substate 4, the Washington boys’ team will square off against Mt. Vernon tomorrow at 7 pm on the road.
The Fairfield boys’ team will look to knock off Solon in the substate semifinals tomorrow at 7 pm on the road.
In Class 3A Substate 4, the Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will host Pella tomorrow at 5 pm.
In Class 1A Region 2, the Fairfield girls’ team will take on Central Lee tonight at 7 pm at home, while the Wapello girls’ team will compete against Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union at the same time.
The Burlington Notre Dame girls’ team will face off against Mediapolis and Washington will travel to Mid-Prairie with both games scheduled to start on Thursday, May 28th, at 7 pm.
For Class 2A Region 4, the Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will tangle with Davenport North on Thursday at 7 pm and Fort Madison will host Keokuk with the winner advancing to play Burlington on June 2nd.
High School Boys’ Tennis
The Iowa High School State Singles and Doubles tournament is slated to start tomorrow, May 27th, from Waterloo and Mt. Pleasant’s pair of Sawyer Fulton and Max Heater will take on Trevin Sutton and Brayden VanHorn of Pella for their first round matchup, while Fort Madison’s Rowan Benda will tangle with Luke Daoust of Shenandoah in his first-round contest.
High School Baseball
Van Buren County will head to Central Lee tonight for first pitch at 7 pm.
Mt. Pleasant will welcome Clear Creek Amana tonight at 7 pm. Panther head coach Brent Broeker is ready to get off and running for the rest of the season,
“When it hits May and games start, you know, that’s when, you know, it starts getting fun, you know, especially for the coaches. You know, you put in all that work over the [offseason], you know, you start throwing, you know, early February, mid-February, and then you start hitting the middle of April. Now’s the time where it’s fun for coaches that we can see, you know, how our kids have progressed from last year. And so, this is when it gets exciting.”
Washington will host Highland tonight at 5:30 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union will clash with West Burlington tonight at 7 pm on the road.
Burlington Notre Dame will start the season on the road with a 7 pm contest against Danville tonight.
Mediapolis will square off against New London tonight at 7 pm at home.
Fairfield will travel to Central Lee tomorrow, May 27th, at 7 pm.
Wapello will square off against Hillcrest Academy on Thursday, May 28th, at 7 pm at home.
High School Softball
In a ranked contest, Class 3A’s #15 Central Lee fell to Class 2A’s #1 Louisa-Muscatine last night, 6-2. The Hawks will look to bounce back against Van Buren County tonight at 7 pm at home.
Mediapolis clobbered Columbus in their home opener last night, 15-1. Payton Harris smacked a home run for four RBIs in the victory.
New London will travel to Mediapolis tonight at 7 pm.
Wapello will square off against Columbus tonight at 7 pm on the road.
Holy Trinity Catholic will stay on the road to play Danville tonight at 7 pm.
Mt. Pleasant will welcome Oskaloosa to town tonight at 7 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.
West Burlington/Notre Dame will host West Liberty tonight at 7 pm.
WACO will hit the road to play Highland tonight at 7 pm.
High School Track and Field
To wrap up the 2026 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships, the Mt. Pleasant girls’ team witnessed three school records fall throughout the course of the event. The 4×100 meter relay team of Kynlee White, Alex Scott, Taylor Williamson, and Delaney Anderson reset the record with a time of 48.4 seconds. Avery Fedler was a part of two new school records, as her time of 2 minutes and 11.47 seconds broke the 800-meter run time and along with White, Anderson, and Scott eclipsed their own record time in the sprint medley relay with a mark of 1 minute and 47.29 seconds.
In an episode of the “Southeast Iowa Playbook,” Mt. Pleasant senior Alex Scott talked about how getting ready for the relays is something she will cherish from her time with the Panther program,
“I will miss our pre-race huddles that we do. Whenever we have a relay, we always try to huddle together and just hype each other up. It’s kind of like you’re manifesting what you do at the race, just to have a good mindset going through it.”
Local Summer Athletic Camps
Mt. Pleasant girls’ basketball is offering up a camp for any girls’ basketball players entering 3rd through 12th grades from June 23rd through the 25th located at the Mt. Pleasant High School Gym. The camp will focus on the fundamentals and introduce team concepts employed by the high school’s system.
