High School Softball
Holy Trinity Catholic collected their sixth straight win after beating Van Buren County last night, 5-3. The Crusaders will host their Classic today with Van Buren County, New London, West Burlington/Notre Dame, and Mt. Pleasant making the trip.
Central Lee could not overcome the West Burlington/Notre Dame offense last night, falling to the Falcons, 14-7. The Hawks will face off against New London on the road on Tuesday, June 9th, at 7 pm.
WACO lost to Louisa-Muscatine last night, 16-0. The Warriors will travel to Pekin on Tuesday at 7 pm.
Wapello dropped their contest to Pekin last night, 8-5. Macey Kuntz clouted a home run for two RBIs in the loss. The Arrows will tangle with New London on Monday, June 8th, at 7 pm.
Fairfield competed in day one of the Iowa City West Classic yesterday and the Trojans split their matchups, losing to Regina Catholic 5-1 and beating the hosts 7-1. Leah Helmick struck out four in the complete game win, while Ireland Cranston, Josie Mosinski, and Maddy Martin each tabbed two RBIs.
Washington will take on Durant and Davenport West today to continue the classic.
Mediapolis shutout Hillcrest Academy last night, 9-0. Maycie Thornburg slugged a double and a triple for three RBIs in the winning effort. The Bullettes will square off against Highland on Monday at home at 7 pm.
Columbus will host Louisa-Muscatine at 7 pm on Thursday, June 11th.
High School Baseball
Burlington Notre Dame swatted Van Buren County away last night, winning 14-1. The Nikes will look to keep their winning streak going against Pekin at home on Monday, June 8th, at 7 pm.
Van Buren County will compete against Fort Madison today at noon at home.
Mediapolis clobbered Hillcrest Academy last night, 17-5. The Bulldogs will travel to West Burlington on Tuesday, June 9th, at 7 pm.
Central Lee defeated West Burlington last night, 11-8. The Hawks will welcome Winfield-Mt. Union to town on Monday at 7 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union dropped a close one to Highland last night, 4-2. Trevor Phillips picked up two hits and struck out four in relief work.
Wapello fell to Pekin last night, 5-2. Wyatt Strawhacker and Wyatt Marlette each nabbed an RBI in the loss. Wapello will make the trip to New London on Monday at 7 pm.
Fairfield shut down Mid-Praire for a one-sided 8-0 victory last night. Dain Burkhart led the way with three RBIs. Washington will take on Fairfield at home on Monday with game one of the doubleheader at 5:30 pm.
Mt. Pleasant will host Keokuk on Monday for a doubleheader with game one at 5:30 pm.
High School Postseason Soccer
The 2026 boys’ state tournaments have decided three of their four champions with one matchup scheduled for today. Here’s how yesterday’s showdowns shook out.
In the Class 3A finals, Des Moines Hoover and Norwalk combined for six goals in a twenty-minute span, as Hoover picked up their first state championship in program history, 4-3.
Waukee Northwest rallied late to defeat Ankeny Centennial for the Class 4A championship yesterday, 3-1. Tate Schendel made six saves in the winning effort.
St. Albert made a late run for the Class 1A state championship, but Regina Catholic exited with the 3-2 victory. Laird Holden netted the hat trick for the Regals.
#1 Gilbert will face off against #3 Des Moines Christian for the Class 2A championship today at 10 am.
Local Summer Athletic Camps
Mt. Pleasant girls’ basketball is offering up a camp for any girls’ basketball players entering 3rd through 12th grades from June 23rd through the 25th located at the Mt. Pleasant High School Gym. The camp will focus on the fundamentals and introduce team concepts employed by the high school’s system.

Southeastern Community College
The Southeastern Blackhawks Youth MVP Baseball Camp has opened up for registration. The camp is open for youths ages 7 to 12, running June 15th through the 17th from 9 am to noon. The camp will take place at Wagner Athletic Complex on the West Burlington Campus and will cost $150 for the full three day camp. The Burlington Bees lost to the O’Fallon Hoots last night, 8-5. The Bees will get their rematch tonight at 6:30 pm at home.
The Clinton LumberKings demolished the Quincy Doggy Paddlers last night, 15-0. Gavin Awbrey smacked a home run for two RBIs in the victory. The two will play again tonight at 6:30 pm at home.
