Winfield Avenue Street Project in Mount Pleasant Moves Into Next Phase

Although rain fell across southeast Iowa over the weekend, the mostly favorable weather over the past several weeks has allowed crews to make significant progress on the Winfield Avenue Improvement Project in Mount Pleasant.

Concrete crews are continuing work on driveways and intersections while storm sewer and drainage improvements move east toward Grand Avenue. The section of Winfield Avenue between Lincoln Street and Palm Avenue has now been paved. After the concrete has cured, crews will return to complete driveways and the shared-use trail in that area.

Beginning early next week, the project will enter its next phase. Winfield Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Palm Avenue and Grand Avenue for the duration of construction.

The north entrance to Walmart will remain closed until work in that section is complete and the roadway reopens. Businesses on the north side of Winfield Avenue between Palm Avenue and Grand Avenue will continue to be accessible from James Avenue using the temporary access road built for the project.

The City of Mount Pleasant says it will continue working with the project engineer and contractors to minimize disruptions while maintaining access to homes and businesses whenever possible. Residents will receive updates if significant access interruptions are expected.
