The Burlington Municipal Band returns to Crapo Park Bandshell tonight for an evening of jazz and concert band favorites. The free performances take place at the bandshell, located at 2800 South Madison Avenue in Burlington.
The evening begins at 6:15 p.m. with the Muni Jazz Band presenting An Evening of Neal Hefti, featuring selections including Cherry Point, Cute, Teddy the Toad, Sunday Morning, Flight of the Foo Birds, Li’l Darlin’, and Whirly Bird.
The Burlington Municipal Concert Band follows at 7:30 p.m. with a program featuring Theme and Rock-Out, Songs of the Carpenters, a Chicago Medley, I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Flourish for Wind Band, a Beatles medley including Michelle, Eleanor Rigby, and Yesterday, Glenn Miller in Concert, Days of Wine and Roses, Barry Manilow in Concert, Isaac Hayes for Concert Band, and the traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever.
Both performances will be directed by Derrick Murphy, director of bands at Burlington High School.
Admission is free, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, although bench seating is also available. Picnic baskets are welcome, and bug spray is recommended for a comfortable evening outdoors.
The Burlington Municipal Band’s final concert of the season is scheduled for Sunday, August 9th, featuring the annual Round Robin Concert with several guest conductors.
