A Wapello man faces a felony charge following a fight at a downtown bar Monday night.
Louisa County deputies were called near Wooster’s Roost Bar at about 10:49 p.m. for a report of someone yelling and acting disorderly in the street. According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find an active fight inside the bar.
Deputies attempted to restrain a suspect who was allegedly assaulting another person. Authorities report the man resisted and became combative, prompting deputies to deploy a Taser. During the arrest, the suspect allegedly kicked a deputy in the chest.
Investigators determined the man was highly intoxicated and had returned to the bar after previously being asked to leave. No major injuries were reported.
Eric Brewer, 35, of Wapello was arrested and charged with felony assault on a peace officer, assault causing bodily injury, interference with official acts, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
The Iowa State Patrol, Louisa County Reserve Unit and Wapello Fire and Rescue assisted the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and Brewer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
