Richard “Dick” Myers

Richard “Dick” Myers, 67, of Salem died Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born on September 1, 1958, in Mount Pleasant the son of Elvin and Anna (Miller) Myers. He grew up on a farm 10 miles south of Mount Pleasant, which began his love of farming. Dick graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1976. In 1984, Dick married Becky McLeland, they lived on the farm until moving to Salem in 1990. The couple later divorced. Dick worked for the City of Salem until his retirement in 2023. Additionally, he served on the Salem Fire Department for 17 years. On June 11, 2011, Dick was united in marriage to Cheryl Fosmark in Salem.

Dick was a lifelong farmer, devoted to the fields he tended. As a farmer, he understood the value of patience, perseverance and care. He arose early, worked tirelessly, and never hesitated to give his time or lend a helping hand. But beyond his hard work, what truly set him apart was his generous and caring heart. Dick was a friend to many, enjoying morning coffee at the tables of wisdom and knowledge at the Salem Community Center and Kramers. He found joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments; casting a line out on the water, or sitting among family and friends sharing stories and laughter. Dick loved being a father and grandfather, a steady presence that always led by example.

Dick is survived by his wife Cheryl; children Jeremy (Julie) Hunold of Salem, Jason (Jenny) Hunold of Mount Pleasant, Jenny (Marty) Mertens of Salem, Julie (Luke) Baker of Salem, Ryan (Elizabeth) Fosmark of Iowa City; grandchildren Kaylen, Brant, Emily, Nolan, Hadley, Danny, Tate, Brody, Chip, Hayes, Vyla; siblings Howard Myers of New London, Sheryl (Mike) Dorn of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
