Men’s College Basketball: Iowa to Play Utah State:
The University of Iowa men’s basketball program’s schedule is now coming into the clear for the upcoming season.
According to school officials, the Hawkeyes will now take on Utah State in a much anticipated nonconference affair at the beautiful Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Hawkeyes played No. 1 Gonzaga there one year ago.
Iowa finished their season in the second round of NCAA Tournament before bowing out to seventh-seeded Oregon.
Game time is unknown at this time.
College Sports: US Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Athletes:
The US Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision Monday on the pay-for-play lawsuit against the NCAA.
The Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that found the federal antitrust law prevents the NCAA from om restricting payment to athletes for such things as internships.
The NCAA argued that the amateur status of athletes would be impossible to maintain if they could receive pay, even for education-related expenses.
Iowa lawmakers have introduced bills that would allow college athletes to profit from the use of their name, image and likeness.
The bill introduced this year failed to advance out of the legislative session.
